CBM Calculator

Calculate cubic meters from package dimensions and quantity.

Unit system

Inputs

Enter the outside dimensions of one package and the number of identical packages. Select each dimension's unit before entering its value. Quantity must be a positive whole number.

This is a rectangular package-volume estimate using the dimensions you enter. Include outer packaging in the measurements. Freight charges, handling space and carrier rounding are not calculated.

Formula · How it works

Formula

Volume per item = Length × Width × Height; Total CBM = Volume per item × Quantity

Convert every dimension to meters, then multiply length × width × height × quantity. CBM means cubic meter: 1 CBM = 1 m³. One cubic foot is 0.028316846592 m³.

Worked example

A box measuring 50 cm × 40 cm × 30 cm occupies 0.5 × 0.4 × 0.3 = 0.06 m³. Ten identical boxes have a total volume of 0.6 CBM, approximately 21.19 ft³.

How it works

Volume grows with each of the three dimensions. Quantity repeats the same package size. For different package sizes, calculate each group separately and add the volumes.

Common questions

What does CBM mean?

CBM means cubic meter, a unit of volume used to describe cargo space. It measures volume, not weight.

How do I calculate CBM?

Multiply length, width and height in meters, then multiply by quantity. The calculator converts the selected dimension units before doing this multiplication.

Is 1 CBM equal to 1 cubic meter?

Yes. 1 CBM and 1 m³ describe exactly the same volume.

How do I calculate CBM for multiple boxes?

For identical boxes, multiply one box's volume by the box count. For different sizes, calculate each size group separately and add the totals.

How do I convert cubic feet to CBM?

Multiply cubic feet by 0.028316846592 to obtain cubic meters. The result panel shows both total m³ and total ft³.
