OEE Calculator

Calculate availability, performance, quality and overall equipment effectiveness.

Unit system

Inputs

Use time and production data from the same reporting period. Planned time and ideal cycle time must be positive; downtime must be less than planned time. Enter a positive whole total count and a whole good count between zero and the total. Selected time units are converted before calculation.

Keep reporting periods, count definitions and cycle-time units consistent. Performance and OEE are displayed as calculated, including values above 100%. A warning asks you to check data when performance exceeds 100%; the calculator does not cap results or assign ratings.

Formula · How it works

Formula

Run time = Planned time − Downtime; Availability = Run time / Planned time; Performance = Ideal cycle time × Total count / Run time; Quality = Good count / Total count; OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

Run time is planned production time minus downtime. Availability = run time ÷ planned time. Performance = ideal cycle time × total count ÷ run time, using the same time unit in numerator and denominator. Quality = good count ÷ total count. Multiply these three ratios to obtain OEE, then multiply by 100 to display a percentage. Ratios are retained at full calculation precision before formatting.

Worked example

With 480 minutes planned, 60 minutes downtime, an ideal cycle time of 30 seconds, 700 total units and 680 good units, run time is 420 minutes. Availability is 87.5%, performance is approximately 83.33%, and quality is approximately 97.14%. OEE is approximately 70.83%.

How it works

Availability compares run time with planned time. Performance compares the ideal time for the total production count with actual run time. Quality compares good units with all produced units. These components show how time, production speed and good output contribute to the overall result.

Common questions

What is OEE?

Overall equipment effectiveness combines availability, performance and quality into one ratio. It relates good production at the entered ideal cycle time to the planned production time for the same period.

How is OEE calculated?

Multiply availability × performance × quality using ratios, then multiply by 100 for the percentage. Do not multiply the displayed percentage numbers directly; for example, use 0.875 rather than 87.5 for 87.5%.

What are availability, performance and quality?

Availability is run time divided by planned time. Performance is ideal cycle time multiplied by total count, divided by run time. Quality is good count divided by total count. All inputs should describe the same production period.

Why can performance exceed 100%?

The entered ideal time for the production count can exceed the recorded run time. Check the ideal cycle time, time units, run time and count data. The calculator shows the result and a warning instead of reducing performance or OEE to 100%.

What causes a lower OEE result?

More downtime reduces availability, a slower production rate relative to the ideal cycle reduces performance, and fewer good units relative to total units reduce quality. Review the three components to identify which inputs account for the result.
